Meet the head of the anti-poaching unit at Ol Pejeta

Ndeki Kaparo with one of the last two northern white rhinos
Some people don’t just work in conservation, they become part of its story. Ndeki Parsaloi Kaparo joined us in 2005 as a Wildlife Ranger and has spent the past two decades at the heart of everything we do to protect wildlife at Ol Pejeta. In 2007, he was among the first rangers entrusted with privately held firearms under the conservancy’s evolving security model, a sign of the trust he had already earned. As poaching pressures escalated across Kenya and the region, he steadily rose through the ranks, playing a critical role in strengthening anti-poaching operations, coordinating intelligence-led deployments, and building partnerships with government agencies and local communities during one of the most challenging periods for rhino conservation in Africa.

Today, as our Security Manager and Senior Warden, he leads the teams responsible for keeping our rhinos and other wildlife safe, a responsibility he has never taken lightly. Under his watch, Ol Pejeta has recorded 8 consecutive years of no poaching, an achievement that speaks not just to his tactical skill, but to the culture of dedication and discipline he has built around him.

Having witnessed the full spectrum of this profession, from the triumphs of wildlife recovery to the sacrifices demanded of rangers, Ndeki brings a depth of experience that is rare. Beyond the operations, he is a mentor and a steady presence, quietly shaping the next generation of conservation professionals. We are proud to have him in our corner.

If you’d like to see this work up close, our dog tracking experience offers a rare window into the world Ndeki and his teams protect every day.
