Yes, you can see the last two northern white rhinos at Ol Pejeta by booking this experience, which offers you the opportunity to learn about their story and our dedicated efforts geared towards saving this species. 

While the high season months of June to October, Jan to Feb offer premium wildlife viewing in dry conditions, tall brown grass and hot weather, wet season months of April and December give you a greener view of the landscape. Every month of the year in Ol Pejeta promises something exciting and transformative for every visitor!

Ol Pejeta is approximately 220 kms from Nairobi. The drive takes about 4 to 4.5 hours depending on traffic and road conditions. Most guests travel via the Nairobi-Nyeri-Nanyuki route, with Nanyuki being the nearest town to the conservancy. It’s an easy and scenic road trip especially as you get closer to the Mt Kenya region.

Guests can choose from a range of accommodation options within the conservancy. These include luxury tented camps, mid-range lodges, budget-friendly stays and designated camping sites. The options include Sweetwaters Serena Camp, Kicheche Laikipia, Sanctuary Tambarare, River Camp, Jambo Mutara, Safari Cottages, Asilia Bush Camp, Porini Rhino Camp, The Stables and Pelican House.
Each property offers a different style of experience, and guests can choose based on their preference and budget.

Yes, game drives are included in the entry package – which additionally gives you a fantastic opportunity to meet Baraka, the blind black rhino (this is at Morani). The entry fee also covers a visit to the Sweetwaters Chimpanzee Sanctuary – the only place in Kenya to see our closest living relatives! 

Yes, this is an ideal destination for families to discover the wild, awaken the curiosity of children – above the age of five years.

Rhinos (both black and white rhinos), lions, elephants, chimpanzees, reticulated giraffes, buffalos, Grant’s gazelles, Thompson’s gazelles, impalas, plains zebras, jackals, hippos, baboons, leopards, cheetahs, elands, aardvarks, hyenas (both spotted and striped hyenas), and abundant birdlife.

Yes, night game drives are available upon prior booking at least a day before. They typically run in two slots; 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm and 9:00 pm – 11:00 pm. 

Guests visiting Ol Pejeta should pack light, comfortable clothing, suitable for both warm days and cool evenings and mornings. We recommend the following:

  • Neutral coloured clothing for game drives
  • A warm jacket or sweater for early mornings and evenings
  • Comfortable walking shoes
  • Sun protection (hat, sunscreen, sunglasses)
  • A reusable water bottle (no plastics)
  • Insect repellant
  • Camera or binoculars for wildlife viewing

We also recommend carrying any other personal essentials or medication you may need during your visit.

Yes. Ol Pejeta is well suited for children and families, offering a range of experiences that are both enjoyable and educational for all ages. Some activities may have age restrictions for safety reasons and we recommend checking with our reservations team when planning your visit. There are lots of exciting activities for kids like feeding Baraka the blind rhino and learning about wildlife conservation at the Morani Information Centre.

Yes, there is wifi at the camps and lodges. Each lodge/camp staff will help you to connect to wifi once you arrive.

No, conservancy entry fees are exclusive of the accommodation costs in the different tourism facilities offered on the conservancy.

Yes, transport can be provided within the conservancy by prior request for a vehicle hire for an additional cost. The vehicle comes with a driver guide to take you through various parts of the conservancy during your game drive. We charge Ksh 28,000 for half day and Ksh 35,000 for full day hire. Alternatively, you may choose to self drive. The roads within the conservancy are easily accessible and marked. 

Most of the activities at Ol Pejeta are offered as private experiences. However, Night Game Drives and Lion Tracking are shared activities. If you would prefer a provate experience, you can reach out to our reservations team via reservations@olpejetaconservancy.org and we will do our best to accommodate your request.

Check in to Ol Pejeta is from 7:00 am and check out is by/before 7:00 pm on the day of departure. 

Yes. The safety and well being of our guests is our top priority. We have dedicated security, wildlife and emergency response teams on the ground 24/7, to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all guests. As a working wildlife conservancy, guests are also briefed on safety guidelines during their stay and while participating in activities within the conservancy. 

We are cashless and accept the following payment options:

  • M-pesa
  • Payment via card at the gate
  • Bank transfers

 

  • If a booking is cancelled 20% of the total booking value will be charged.
  • If a booking is cancelled 60 – 31 days to arrival, 40% of the total booking value will be charged.
  • If a booking is cancelled 30 – 8 days to arrival, 50% of the total booking value will be charged.
  • If a booking is cancelled 7 days to arrival or “No Show”, 100% of the total booking value will be charged.

Ol Pejeta Conservancy is owned by the Ol Pejeta Conservancy Trust, a not-for-profit entity that holds the 90,000-acre land in trust for the Kenyan people. It was purchased in 2004 with funding from the Arcus Foundation and Fauna & Flora International (FFI). It operates as a Kenyan-owned, non-profit organization focused on conservation and community development, with revenue generated through tourism and other activities is re-invested into these programmes. 

Yes, we offer hands-on activities that kids can participate in e.g. feeding the black rhino Baraka. The Morani Information Center is a terrific place for kids to explore, feel, touch, look and learn something new about wildlife conservation.

The main roads in Ol Pejeta are well maintained and graded gravel roads. While 2WD vehicles can access the conservancy during the dry season, a 4×4 is strongly recommended during the rainy season.

Yes, we do sell cows. Ol Pejeta operates the largest pure Boran herd in the world – consisting of about 6,300+ pure Boran cattle. The livestock programme is part of our integrated conservation model and plays an important role in sustainable land use management. Yes we offer internship and attachment opportunities for students and recent graduates, typically lasting three to six months. Interns are immersed in day-to-day operations across various departments, including wildlife monitoring, accounting, and tourism/hospitality. Access to Ol Pejeta is primarily by vehicle and all game viewing is done using the vehicles.
