Today we celebrate World Ranger Day, a moment that never passes without deep reflection and appreciation here at Ol Pejeta.
Across more than 90,000 acres of protected landscape, our fearless rangers are the reason this place is what it is. They patrol through scorching heat and freezing nights, track rhino movements before dawn, and stand watch over the world’s last two northern white rhinos. Despite these elaborate challenges, rangers always show up, fiercely defending critical habitats and endangered wildlife species for the benefit of humanity. Behind every uniform is a human story: a family, a father, a mother, a community, a calling that runs far deeper than any job description.
For more than nine years, not a single rhino has been poached on Ol Pejeta. That record doesn’t happen by accident. It’s the result of thousands of patrols and a vigilance that never really switches off.
This Ranger Day, we also want to say a heartfelt thank you to Jim Green Footwear, who kindly donated new boots for our ranger team.
A good pair of Jim Green boots means our rangers can concentrate on what they do best: protecting wildlife. These boots are a companion for our brave men and women on every patrol, every early morning and every long night in the field. It’s a powerful example of how partners can support conservation in ways that go far beyond the obvious. This is more than a donation of boots; it’s validation. It tells our rangers that they are seen, valued and appreciated for everything the job asks of them.
