The Organization

Ol Pejeta Conservancy (“Ol Pejeta”) is home to key population of the Critically Endangered eastern black rhino, and to the last two (2) Northern White Rhinos in the world. It is the only place in Kenya to see chimpanzees, in a sanctuary established to rehabilitate animals rescued from the black market. It has some of the highest predator densities in Kenya, and still manages a very successful livestock Programme. Ol Pejeta also seeks to support the people living around its borders, to ensure wildlife conservation translates to better education, livelihoods and infrastructure for the next generation of wildlife guardians.

We are seeking a high calibre, self-motivated and dedicated applicant to fill the position of Management Accountant.

 

Role summary

Role Summary

The Management Accountant will be responsible for overseeing financial planning, reporting, and risk management within the Conservancy. This role involves managing the organization’s cash position, debt, and financial risk exposure while ensuring compliance with financial regulations and internal controls. The incumbent will provide financial insights, budgeting support, and strategic recommendations to aid decision-making and enhance financial sustainability.

 

  1. Responsibilities and Accountabilities
    • Cash Flow & Financial Risk Management: Prepare periodic cash flow forecasts that help to monitor and manage the organization’s cash flow, ensuring adequate liquidity to support operations. Oversee debt management, including loan repayments and financing strategies, while identifying and mitigating financial risks. Implement strategies to optimize working capital and safeguard the organization’s financial health.
    • Financial Compliance & Internal Controls: Ensure adherence to financial regulations, donor requirements, and internal policies. Strengthen internal controls to mitigate financial risks, prevent fraud, and enhance operational efficiency. Support internal and external audits by providing accurate financial records and ensuring compliance with audit recommendations.
    • Budgeting & Financial Planning: Lead the preparation of annual budgets and periodic financial forecasts. Work closely with Division heads to align budgets with organizational objectives, ensuring prudent financial planning. Provide variance analysis and recommend corrective actions to enhance budget performance.
    • Financial Reporting & Analysis: Prepare and present monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports, ensuring accuracy and completeness by use of dash boards with tools like Power -Bi-. Provide insightful financial analysis, including cost-benefit evaluations, trend analysis, and performance metrics, to support strategic decision-making. Ensure timely submission of financial reports to management and relevant stakeholders.
    • Grant & Donor Fund Management: Monitor donor-funded projects to ensure financial compliance with grant agreements. Track grant expenditures, prepare donor financial reports, and provide necessary financial insights to project managers. Ensure that funds are utilized as per donor requirements and organizational objectives.
    • Fixed Asset & Investment Management: Oversee the management of the conservancy’s fixed assets, ensuring accurate recording, valuation, and depreciation. Assess investment opportunities and financial strategies to enhance long-term sustainability and resource allocation.
    • Stakeholder Engagement & Advisory: Act as a financial advisor to management by providing expert recommendations on cost efficiencies, revenue generation, and financial risk management. Support cost analysis, pricing, and profitability studies. Collaborate closely with department heads to provide financial insights.
    • Other Responsibilities: Support finance-related projects, system improvements, and policy updates as required. Perform any other duties assigned by the Head of Finance to strengthen financial management and reporting processes.
    • Any other additional responsibilities as may be assigned from time to time.
  2. Professional Qualification & Membership to Professional Bodies
    • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, Economics or a related field.
    • CFA -2, CPA- K or ACCA Certification.
    • Be a registered member of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (ICPAK).
  3. Experience
  • Minimum of eight (8) years of progressive experience in financial management, preferably in both Profit and Non-profit environment.
  • Demonstrated expertise in budgeting, compliance, and donor reporting.

  • Hands-on experience with Power BI or similar BI tools.
