In 2018, For Rangers and Ol Pejeta Conservancy are pioneering Kenya's first 'virtual ultra'. The beauty of it: anyone can take part, no matter where in the world you live. Taking a year to complete, participants will run the collective distance between all of Kenya's rhino conservancies and parks; a total of 1,245.5 kms at an average of around 3.4 kms a day.
These kilometres can be covered on a treadmill, rowing machine, as gentle walks around the park, a cross-trainer or even on a bicycle - any (calculable) exercise that suits you is accepted. Using whatever fitness app you prefer, you will simply log in your distances to our custom-made web app, and watch with satisfaction as your marker scoots along the route.
Participants will commit to raising a minimum of USD 1,000 over the course of the year; your donations tally will be shown on the leaderboard next to your kms run. A personal donation portal will be sent to you to make collecting donations easier.
Participants will receive information about each landmark as they reach it; emphasizing the importance of what you're doing this all for along the way. Aside from raising money for rhino conservation in Kenya, you will probably end up much fitter than you started.
Whilst there is no prize for first place other than the chance to share your achievement with your friends and family, we encourage a healthy sense of competition. In any case, your grateful body will be reward enough.
The For Rangers Ol Pejeta Virtual Ultra starts on the 1st January, 2018, and ends 31st December 2018. The deadline to sign up is the 31st January, 2018.
