The weather has been extremely hot in the Sanctuary lately. This is supposed to be the cold season but instead we are experiencing a heat wave. The chimpanzees don’t seem very happy with this hot weather and have become almost docile. Instead of playing you will most likely find them seeking out shelter under trees, under the platform or taking a nap in the hammock.

To counter the heat some of the chimps have come up with clever ways of cooling off. I saw Roy taking a dip in the water trough the other day. He looked so happy splashing around in that water that Romeo joined him and within a short time they had managed to empty the whole trough.
Jane proved herself quite resourceful when she discovered a water bottle in the river. She fished it out, collected water from the river and poured it on herself! I was really impressed when I saw this.

Even in this heat wave with the chimps subdued they still find ways to amaze us with their intelligence.
