Education is a core pillar of the Ol Pejeta Conservancy Community Development Programme. Through the collaboration of the local government and willing donors the Conservancy provides bursaries to assist students in need. We are proud to announce that students supported through the Ol Pejeta Bursary Fund recorded exemplary performance in the recently released 2010 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education examination results.

Among the sponsored students one attained an A - while six attained B’s. Anthony Gakuru, from Tigithi Secondary School, obtained an A- and attributed his success to hard work and determination. “I’m grateful to Ol Pejeta and its contributors for the support they have given me and hopefully I’ll realize my dreams of pursuing a Computer Science Degree in University,” said Anthony.

Judy Wachira, another bursary beneficiary from Loise Girls High School, attained a grade of B.  As the pioneer class in the school to sit for the National Examinations, Judy and her classmates performed remarkably well for Loise Girls High School to emerge as the best school in Laikipia East District.

The Ol Pejeta Conservancy also supports a number of schools by donating library books and computers to facilitate a conducive learning environment. Schools supported by Ol Pejeta, namely Tigithi Secondary, Sweetwaters Secondary, St. Augustine Secondary and Wathituga Primary, received trophies for their performance during the Laikipia Central District prize giving day held at St. Augustine’s Secondary School in Sirima on April 4th. The prize giving day was the first for the newly established Laikipia Central District and is meant to recognize the district schools that performed the best and also to motivate others to perform even better.

Amongst those who attended the ceremony were the District Commissioner, Mr. Kilonzi, the local Member of Parliament’s representative, the District Education Officer Mr. M.S. Ali, members of the Kenya National Union of Teachers, principals and teachers from several primary and secondary schools in the District, and the Ol Pejeta Community Programmes department.  The District Education Officer, Mr. M.S. Ali, hosted the ceremony and thanked all the institutions that made the day possible, in particular the Ol Pejeta Conservancy. The Conservancy donated two trophies and covered the printing costs of all the certificates that were handed out during the ceremony.

The Chief Guest, Dr. Waweru, a professor at Egerton University, observed that scores over the past three years have been going up showing that education standards in the District are improving. He urged parents to take responsibility in educating their children as education is the ultimate solution for problems faced in the county.

The Ol Pejeta Bursary Fund has been able to sustain more than 300 pupils since its inception in 2005. We welcome donations to support our Bursary Fund.
Ol Pejeta is ready to assist those willing to sponsor students to pay for their education. We will help to identify those most in need of assistance, transparently administer the disbursement of funds and provide regular progress reports.
