As part of the Imre Loefler Lecture Series presented by the East African Wildlife Society, Richard Vigne, Ol Pejeta’s CEO will be giving a presentation on Thursday, September 2nd, 2010, at the Muthaiga Country Club in Nairobi, Kenya. The presentation is titled, Conservation in Kenya – Suggestions for a New Approach.
Richard will give a brief description of the differences that exist between the South African model/policy for conservation as compared to Kenya, the implications of these differences in terms of creating incentives for land to be set aside for conservation. The history of the recent developments on the Ol Pejeta Conservancy: creation of the largest black rhino population in Kenya, integration of commercial cattle operations with wildlife, the constraints facing the emergence of conservation in the private sector and the absolute necessity for more land to be brought into the conservation arena.
