Ladies Only! 4WD Off-Road Driving Course
At Ol Pejeta Bush Camp
6-8 March, 2009
Minimum: 6 Students, Maximum: 10 Students
Join us on the Ol Pejeta Conservancy for a fantastic weekend! Just 3 hours drive from Nairobi you can trade the stress of traffic jams, noise and pollution for the tranquility and peace of the African bush. What better way to expand your driving skills and learn how to get the most out of your 4WD vehicle than on safari in a beautiful environment with rugged terrain, surrounded by wildlife and great company!
The 4WD Off-Road Driving Course includes:
• Get to know your vehicle: introduction to different 4WD Systems; correctly engaging and disengaging 4WD
• Understanding torque vs. power
• Wheel printing exercises (learning to read the road and placing your wheels in the correct place to traverse terrain)
• Stall-recovery techniques (recovery from a failed climb without using your clutch)
• Ascending steep, washed-out roads; descending steep inclines
• Driving through water and traversing obstacles
• Basic bush mechanics
Ol Pejeta Bush Camp is a traditional, very comfortable bush camp run by Alex and Diana Hunter and set in nearly 100,000 acres of the Ol Pejeta Conservancy in Laikipia, near to Nanyuki, right on the Equator.
The camp has 6 tents with twin beds, accommodating a total of 12 guests. Tents are furnished with beds (duvets and blankets), re-chargeable solar lights, en-suite flush loos, washstands on the tent veranda, and safari bucket showers (of any preferred temperature by guests at any time of day!).
Our Belgian-trained chef makes everything fresh with local ingredients daily, including bread, a wide variety of salads, beef and lamb (from Ol Pejeta itself) and vegetarian dishes; he is famed for his curries, soups and puddings.
Great Wildlife Viewing!
The Ol Pejeta Conservancy has become the largest black rhino sanctuary outside of South Africa. Rare breeds on the conservancy include 79 black rhino, 11 white rhino, the extremely rare Grevy’s zebra, and Jackson’s Hartebeest, which all feed with a fluctuating population of lion, elephant, buffalo, cheetah, leopard and plains game in full view of Mount Kenya. Visitors also have free access to the Sweetwaters Chimpanzee Sanctuary. The facility was established to receive and provide lifelong refuge to orphaned and abused chimpanzees from west and central Africa.
