Jeff Corwin Films on Ol Pejeta!

September 7, 2009

Jeff Corwin, celebrity American host and executive producer of The Jeff Corwin Experience and Corwin's Quest productions on the Animal Planet, visited the Ol Pejeta Conservancy on 18th of August as part of his new project, 100 Heartbeats, a one-hour documentary which will air on MSNBC on the 22nd of November.  Jeff’s documentary will be following the release of his new book and explores the plight of our planet’s most endangered wildlife species, including the black rhino, which is listed as critically endangered by the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN).

While on the Conservancy, Corwin took part in the translocation of Irungu, a male black rhino that had been involved in a fierce fight in the bush and had suffered severe injuries. The translocation operation aimed at moving the wild rhino to a special holding-pen within the Conservancy, for specialized treatment and observation.

The Ol Pejeta Conservancy is East Africa’s largest Black Rhino Sanctuary, and home to over 80 individuals. Conservation activities undertaken here to protect and care for black rhinos and many other species in this 90 000 acre wildlife reserve involve intensive day-to-day monitoring, security, administration and other efforts.
